September 2019

The symphonic poem 'Gododdin' and 1st harp concerto ('Amaterasu') with soloist Hannah Stone, are featured on this new CD from Heritage Records. Many thanks to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Gavin Sutherland.

July 2019

Pendyrus Male Choir gave the first public performance of the commission piece 'Ffynhonnau' (Streams) in their programme in Gŵyl Fawr Aberteifi (the Cardigan Eisteddfod) - and won the competition.  The work sets words from the poem of the same name by Rhydwen Williams. The choir sang it again in the National Eisteddfod on 10 August.


June 2019

After a gap of twenty years since its première, Classy Classics, for unison children's voices and symphony orchestra, was performed by Birmingham schoolchildren and the orchestra of Welsh National Opera, in the Town Hall, Birmingham, on 30 June.

May 2019

Gareth composed a piece for organ without organist for the Vale of Glamorgan Festival - 'Pendramwnwgl' ('Pell-mell').  It's performed on several occasions by Astrid, the Dutch street organ, starting on 18 May at 11.00 in the Millennium Centre, Cardiff, and then in different locations over the subsequent months, including the National Eisteddfod in Llanrwst.

September 2018

Following the success of Gareth's first opera, Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd, work is now in progress on a second - an adaptation of Caradog Prichard's classic Un Nos Ola Leuad, one of the very few Welsh-language novels to be translated into multiple languages. The plans are for OPRA Cymru to perform the opera in 2020. Watch this space!

There was an enthusiastic response to the new chamber work To the Four Winds in Ensemble Cymru's recent tour, with reviewers using such words as 'stunning', 'wonderful', 'heartfelt', 'magical' and 'masterly'!

A new piece by Gareth, Cytgerdd, receives its first performances on 6 April in the International Harp Festival in Caernarfon. It's the test piece for the most advanced harpists, and was composed to celebrate the 90th birthday of the harpist Osian Ellis.

Gareth composed a nonet, To the Four Winds, for Ensemble Cymru's 15th anniversary tour in May 2018, with performances in Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Pwllheli, Cilcain, Llandudno, Holyhead, Bangor and Caernarfon.

Gareth's opera, Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd, won the award for Best Production in the Welsh Language in the Wales Theatre Awards 2018.

Gareth Glyn's new opera, Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd (A Week in a Future Wales), has been nominated in four categories for the Wales Theatre Awards 2018: Best Sound (=music); Best Production in the Welsh Language; Best Male in an Opera Production (Robyn Lyn Evans); and Best Welsh Touring Production.


Gareth Glyn's new opera, Wythnos yng Nghymru Fydd (A week in a Future Wales) received its first ever performances on 10 and 11 November in the Pontio centre, Bangor before going on tour through Wales. More details here.

A capacity crowd of thousands filled Trafalgar Square in London for an open-air concert given by the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev, including a performance of Gareth’s special arrangement of Berlioz’s ‘Symphonie Fantastique’ which incorporates young players into the ensemble. – more
